Maybe it sounds nerdy. Maybe it sounds unimportant. Maybe it sounds flat-out silly, but vintage has been a big, big part of my life. Somewhere between playing dress-up in my grandmother’s clothes, stealing my dad’s amazing 70s collegewear, thrift shopping with my friends as teenagers, and—yes—stealing ancient costumes from my church’s drama closet, the feel, smell, and aesthetic of vintage clothing has become as familiar as my childhood home. In vintage, whether it’s an entire dress or as small as a ring on my finger, I feel comfortable. I feel safe. I feel like myself.
